After carving a secret compartment in the book, I applied modge podge all over the book to both glue the pages together and to seal the pages. I then glued on blue card stock over the book cover and painted the inside and uncovered outer sections (the areas not covered by the book cover) with blue acrylic paint. I then used the blue card stock to "legofy" the book.

Here's a close up of the lego block....um, knob? I'll call it a knob. Or the bumpy part. Gotta love my technical language here!
And here is the secret compartment (I filled it with cookies). It wasn't too difficult cutting up the book to create the compartment. I used a very sharp exacto knife and slowly cut out the pages. The knife was able to cut through about 20 pages at a time. There is probably a better way to do it, but that was the sharpest tool I had on hand. I'll have to make a book with a secret compartment for myself once I come across another novel I was completely not impressed with!

Care to share which novel it was? :)
ReplyDeleteIt was Call It Sleep by Henry Roth. It certainly made me want to sleep...har har!
ReplyDeleteHa! If you need a few extra novels to craft with, I'll have some when I move out. :)
